Instagram, operating under Meta, is now bringing the Instagram Reels viewing experience to television screens with its TV app. The social media giant has begun testing this new feature with select users, and this development could radically change content consumption habits.
Instagram Reels Coming Soon to Big Screens!
Instagram for TV is primarily designed to support watching Reels videos on large screens with multiple people. The company stated that the aim of this test is to understand which features work best when users watch Reels together on TV. This aims to offer a new social experience, especially for families and groups of friends who come together to watch content.
Getting started with the app is quite simple. Users can install the Instagram app directly on their Fire TVs and log in with their existing accounts. They can also quickly switch to the TV app from the Settings menu in the mobile Instagram app. The TV app supports up to five accounts, allowing multiple users in a household to access personalized Reels streams.
Once logged in, Reels videos are grouped into channels based on interests. Videos categorized under topics like music, sports, travel, and trending content play automatically with sound. This feature allows users to enjoy a seamless viewing experience without constantly needing a remote, simply by sitting back and relaxing.
Instagram plans to add new features to the app with future updates. Expected innovations include:
- Phone-based remote controls
- Improved channel navigation
- Shared streams for group viewing
- Easier access to content from followed creators
- The app is currently only available in the US on select Amazon Fire TV devices. Supported models include popular devices such as the Fire TV Stick HD, Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, Fire TV Stick 4K Max, and Fire TV Omni QLED Series.
